Welcome to Carolyn Marshall Counselling

I offer confidential, friendly and compassionate face-to-face counselling to individuals and couples.

Could counselling be helpful to you?

Almost everyone experiences difficulties at some point in their lives. For example:

  • bereavement

  • the end of a relationship

  • redundancy

  • difficulty moving on to a new phase of life

Sometimes, without quite knowing why, we may find ourselves experiencing difficulties such as:

  • depression

  • low self esteem

  • relationship problems

  • difficulties at work

  • substance misuse

  • ... or simply just finding it difficult to cope with everyday life.

At other times we may wish to explore choices about possible changes in our lives or relationships. At such times it can often be difficult to talk to close friends or family members who may be too closely involved in the situation.

What is counselling?

Counselling provides a safe, confidential place to talk with somebody who is objective about your situation, as well as being empathic and non-judgemental.

As a counsellor, I will not be giving you advice, but the aim is that, as we explore your life and the things that concern you together, you will find yourself able to see your situation with new insights and clarity.

Counselling offers the opportunity to explore the way we behave and relate to others, and to develop an understanding of how we think and feel. We can often learn a lot about our patterns of thinking and behaving and begin to understand some of our current difficulties by looking at past events or relationships.

Through this process the knowledge and understanding gained about ourselves can lead to an improved sense of well-being and an ability to bring about change.

For couples, counselling offers all of the above, as well as the space and support to talk to each other, and to learn ways of communicating better.
